Our Community

Lydford Mining Company is dedicated to the communities we serve. Our contributions span various sectors, including education, health, community development, and infrastructure, reflecting our commitment to corporate social responsibility.

We are also actively involved in supporting government initiatives and engaging in public-private partnerships to meet the needs of the country. This includes donations of materials, monetary donations and volunteering to assist with road repairs, youth activities and more.

No Child Left Behind Initiative:

For more than five years Lydford Mining Company has spearheaded an initiative called ‘No Child Left Behind’ (originally titled ‘No Boy Left Behind’), sponsoring an after-school program at Golden Grove All Age School. This initiative targets students in grades one and two. Expanded during COVID to combat learning loss the initiative initially focused on young boys who had fallen significantly behind in their English language and reading studies. The programme now includes all students.

In addition to the cost of reading materials and resources for the students, we have also provided supplemental funding to accommodate additional work hours for educators, as well as prizes for the schools 6th grade graduation ceremony.

Olive and Vincent Hill, Joy and Clifton Millington Foundation

Launched in 2023, the Foundation provides educational opportunities, while alleviating financial burdens on families. This initiative is a part of our long-term commitment to the advancement of education in Jamaica by providing financial assistance to the students of St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

In addition to scholarships, the Foundation has invested in the purchase of teaching aids, and educational resources, improving the overall teaching and learning experience at STETHS.

Kevaughn Williams became the first recipient of this annual scholarship, making him the first in his family to attend university.

Staff Scholarships:

In addition to the Company’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities at the community level, Lydford is also committed to giving back to its staff. Each year, merit-based scholarships are awarded to the top-performing children of Lydford’s staff members. This award eases the financial pressure on staff members while promoting education as a pathway to advancement for their children - the majority hailing from rural St. Ann.
