Our History

We Started With A Simple Mission.

In 1992, Dr. Vincent Hill and Mr. Leo Cousins set out on a mission to develop a world-class limestone industry in Jamaica.  They envisioned transforming limestone use from low-value construction material into a highly profitable product through processing.  Beginning by exporting high-purity calcium carbonate for use in the Food and Pharmaceutical markets, they achieved sustainable development by integrating a wide range of uses of limestone into the operations.

Vincent, a geochemist, combined his skills and resources with Leo, a mechanical engineer. This synergistic relationship made their vision of developing this fledgling industry a reality. That vision turned into profit and the Lydford Mining Company, which started with strictly high purity whiting grade calcium carbonate, evolved over the years to provide milled products, high-value screened products and construction-grade aggregates.

We Continue To Grow.

Operating out of Lydford, St Ann on the northern coast of Jamaica, we have continued to stay true to the vision of our founders. We made history in late 2018 as the first exporter of manufactured limestone sand to the US Virgin Islands. The shipment of 4,800 tons of construction-grade limestone sand was a first for Jamaica.

Through key partnerships, at home and abroad, coupled with a focus on sustainable mining practices, we continue to grow the capacity of our facilities to meet today’s demand for products locally and internationally.

We Focus On Excellence.

In 2024, we were honoured by the Jamaica Exporters and Manufacturers Association (JMEA) and the Jamaica Institution of Engineers (JIE) for our excellence in operational efficiency and engineering.

At the JMEA M&E Awards, we received the Jamaica Productivity Center Award for Productivity and Competitiveness (Large)—a testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation, people development, and community impact.

Our world-class engineering team was also recognised with the Engineering Project of the Year Award (2024) for its groundbreaking Engineered Sustainability in Limestone Mining Initiative. By integrating cutting-edge technology with innovative engineering solutions, this initiative is redefining sustainable mining and positioning Jamaica’s limestone sector as a global leader.

Jackie Hill Millington

Managing Director

Jackie Hill Millington, PE, is a Georgia Tech graduate with an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. She has led automation initiatives in the bauxite and alumina sector. Her strategic leadership has made Lydford Mining a top limestone exporter. A trailblazer in industrial minerals, she champions innovation, efficiency, and inclusivity.

Sam Millington

Chief Operating Officer

Sam Millington, a UWI Chemical Process Engineering graduate, has extensive mining experience, from Jamaica’s bauxite sector to global corporate sales. He delivers efficiency, profitability, and data-driven decision-making. Sam is also a thought leader, serving as President of the Mining and Quarrying Association of Jamaica.

Lisa Cousins

Chief Financial Officer

Lisa Cousins joined Lydford in 2020, bringing over 20 years of audit experience in the public and private sectors. With a background in computer science and postgraduate studies in Accounting, she has financial and analytical expertise. A Registered Public Accountant, she is also Assistant Registrar of the Public Accountancy Board.

Director - Business Development

Edgar Cousins, a Concordia University Commerce graduate, has vast expertise in corporate marketing and international business. A key contributor since Lydford’s founding, he has played a crucial role in its growth for over 30 years. As Director of Business Development, he has expanded market presence, particularly in the Concrete Products division.

Dwight Simms

HR and Safety Manager

Dwight Simms believes Lydford’s greatest asset is its people. He has reshaped company culture through HR policies and engagement. Passionate about wellbeing, he led the company’s wellbeing programme to make Lydford an employer of choice. Known for his people skills, he values family and faith and enjoys football, basketball, and playing bass guitar.

Operations Manager

Jase Millington is highly skilled in maintaining smooth operations, with a keen eye for continuous improvement. He fosters a culture of optimisation and efficiency. Dedicated and results-driven, Jase plays a crucial role in ensuring Lydford operates at peak performance, strengthening its reputation for excellence and reliability.

Kenneth Paul Matthews

Production and Maintenance Manager

Paul Matthews has been with Lydford Mining since 1992, starting as a welder and growing with the company. He has contributed to every major milestone, earning his Quarry Management certification from EXED College. Known for his technical expertise and dedication, Paul plays a key role in ensuring smooth operations and maintaining Lydford’s culture of excellence.

Joel McConnell

Reliability Manager

Joel McConnell, a UWI Electronics Engineering graduate, specialises in maintenance and reliability. Passionate about innovation, he drives operational excellence at Lydford Mining. A sports enthusiast, he enjoys table tennis and badminton. With a deep curiosity for technology, Joel aims to contribute groundbreaking advancements to the global engineering sector.

Darren Millington

Project Engineer

Darren Millington, an electrical engineer, thrives on problem-solving and innovation. His passion for mathematics and science led him to engineering project management. Detail-oriented and eager to learn, he seeks challenges that expand his expertise. A keen sports fan, he channels his competitive spirit into track and field while continuously pursuing professional growth and engaging in research projects.
