With over 25 years in Jamaica, Lydford Mining Company provides affordable solutions in limestone across the Caribbean and the Americas.
Lydford Mining exports more than 120,000 tons of high purity limestone, 100,000 tons of industrial grade, and 2,000 tons of ground material each year.
Our HISTORY
In 1992, Dr. Vincent Hill and Leo Cousins set out on a mission to develop the Jamaican mining industry through the processing and export of high purity calcium carbonate for use in the Food and Pharmaceutical markets. They sought to transform limestone into a profitable market for sustainable development
Vincent, who was a chemist and geologist in the bauxite business from the 1950s, and Leo who was a mechanical engineer with many years of mining experience, had a vision of leading the mining industry and competing with the then popular bauxite products. That vision turned into profit and the company, which started off with strictly high purity whiting grade calcium carbonate, evolved over the years to provide calcium supplements, milled products and construction grade aggregate.
Operating out of Lydford, St Ann on the northern coast of Jamaica, Lydford Mining Company made history in late 2018 when we became the first exporter of crushed limestone sand to the United States Virgin Islands. The shipment of 4,800 tons of construction grade limestone sand was a first for the country. Through key partnerships and a focus on sustainable mining practices,we have continued to grow the capacity of our facilities and our growing workforce to meet the demand for products locally and internationally.
“Bedford has helped accomplish over 200 of its partners’ major conservation goals. They inspire everyone to care for the planet.”
